Coaching

Our executive coaching is admired for good reason: it imbues heightened personal awareness, clarity, confidence and a strong sense of purpose. Our distinctive approach to coaching is based on cutting edge research into how leaders really learn during times of change. It is supported by professional, in-house supervision. Our coaching practice is led by Belinda Smith. All our coaches have professional qualifications in coaching, counselling or organisational behaviour.

Coaching Programmes for specific individual needs

A typical 1:2:1 engagement involves six coaching meetings over a period of between six months and a year. We emphasise the engagement process, ensuring that all the key stakeholders in the coaching are properly engaged at the beginning and at the end of the assignment. Sometimes we support the coaching with a one or two day retreat (to deepen ‘self insight' and resourcefulness); unlimited email and telephone support is provided throughout. Coaching is beneficial to people who are embarking on significant change, taking on intense challenges, seeking to increase their leadership impact, handling difficult relationships, having problems getting to grips with an existing job, or who need to broaden their competence into new areas.

For people transitioning into new roles in their first 100 days.

This programme provides specialist support for senior executives entering new roles. It empowers them to adjust to career change quickly, and to maintain full efficiency. 'Waverley 100' is the product of two years' research and development. Available only since 2007, this groundbreaking coaching product has been adopted by four large organisations already. The programme deepens an executive's awareness of key leadership issues in the crucial first 100 days of an appointment. 'Waverley 100' enables people to assimilate their new workplace more rapidly, communicate with peers, and establish their professional raison d'etre. The programme encourages clients to make ‘self-coaching' a part of their ongoing management culture; it is delivered on a 1:2:1 basis, or via a team of coaches.

To maximise and sustain the benefits of our corporate programmes, we provide follow-up coaching or ‘action learning'; in doing so we apply principles drawn from our research into the ways managers really learn whilst at work. We also provide specific development programmes for internal mentors and coaches to help them operate with the same level of sophistication.
