Nurturing Responsible Leadership

We believe leadership development is a process and a journey that each person undertakes uniquely for themselves.

This programme, often delivered in your company and in partnership with your people, follows this framework:

  • Leading self: understanding motivations, drives, values, strengths and blind spots; building a personal leadership style and narrative; identifying how to lead well in your context.
  • Leading others: understanding what makes people tick and how to release potential; having authentic conversations; leading people through change.
  • Leading in your system: understanding systems thinking and dynamics; influencing at different levels in the system; collaboration across boundaries; simplifying strategic options and executing against these.
  • Supported with executive coaching one to one and also action learning groups.
  • Each module is typically 2-3 days and are delivered 3-4 months apart to enable application of learning.
  • In company programmes will feature a kick-off module to position the training in the strategic business context

Benefits and key outcomes of the programme

  • Participants will develop a clear understanding of their own authentic leadership style which means that they can be confident, approachable and humble in a wide range of situations in their workplaces and beyond.
  • They will be able to manage their own response to changes and uncertainty, sustain their personal wellbeing and use ways and techniques to do this for their teams in the organisation,
  •  Participants will be able to tackle performance issues within their teams and inspire others to embrace changing circumstances.
  • They will be able to navigate complex systems inside and outside their organisation by understanding how systems operate and how to win over different stakeholder groups.
  • Participants will explore how to work across boundaries and silos to increase collaboration.

This all adds up to more confident, more aware, more inspiring and more collaborative leaders that make a real difference to your business and the wider world.

Example flow for our signature leadership programme

Week 1 Initial awareness and preparation

Participants are invited to complete some self assessments that help identify their personality, their drives, the focus of their energy; they are invited to conduct a wider enquiry with colleagues and stakeholders (a 360 process) that helps inform their strengths, their weaknesses and any blind spots. Typically, they may also have a one to one interview with a facilitator /coach.

Month 1 Module1: Discovering my authentic leadership

This 2 day module introduces foundational theory around self as leader; understanding how leaders for the future will need to be different to embrace paradoxes present in our world; principles of managing and sustaining energy; making sense of your leadership context and the practice of maximising leadership moments; crafting my personal leadership narrative underpinning my journey as a leader; planning to implement learning from initial awareness and the module; setting up learning support groups and personal coaching as needed.

Month 3 Module2: Leading self and others in times of change

This 2 day module introduces foundational theory around change and human responses to change; how to work with different responses, groups and motivations; identifying change agents and empowering them to embrace and thrive; tackling important conversations.

Month 6 Module3: Leading authentically in the wider system

Waverley Learning are very vested in what they’re doing, very committed. They’re dynamic individually and collectively, they are 100% invested to the learners when they go into a program, it really is a sense of ownership of the experience that I don’t necessarily always see with every other vendor or learning partner that we use.
Lisa Smisek - Director of Learning, Kearney
There’s a credibility and a humility that you just sense when you’re engaging with Waverley Learning. I’m personally very drawn to that.
Karen Brown - Director of People and Talent, Tearfund
It is the extent to which Waverley Learning understood all the requirements, the innovation that they brought, the talent they brought. Their whole style takes the frantic pace at which we work out of the equation, the messages comes through really clearly. They’ve tuned into the challenges of our organization and made observations that have given us added value. It’s always based on our needs.
Alison Maher - Head of Learning, GWR
Their Developing Skills course consistently gets the best feedback of any standard developmental course that we offer. They’re clearly doing something right in terms of engagement, for those individuals to realise their own development within that situation. Waverley Learning listen to what’s going on, the chats that they’re having with my colleagues. They’re able to play that back, this is what’s going on in your business. As an organization, they provide great insight into to us.
